7 ways to build relationships with kids

  1. Discuss Non-School Related Topics When talking to children, don’t just focus on exams and grades. Instead, ask about and listen to their hobbies, their friends, and the unique little things that happen in their daily lives.
  2. Let Them Be Your Teacher Show interest in their world—whether it’s a game, a cartoon, or a specific hobby. Act as if you know nothing and let them teach you. This significantly boosts their self-confidence and sense of importance.
  3. Tell Hilarious Stories Laughter is one of the best bridges for connection. Sharing funny stories from your own experiences helps break the ice and reduces any tension between you and the child.
  4. Share Inspirational Life Stories Share moments from your past, especially how you overcame challenges when you were young. This not only provides valuable life lessons but also helps them see you as a more relatable and warm person.
  5. Immerse Yourself in Their World When playing with children, don’t just stand on the sidelines as an adult. Dive into their imagination, share their excitement, and fully engage with their perspective and energy.
  6. Incorporate Their Interests into Activities Use the things they love as a foundation for lessons or activities. When children see their interests reflected in what they are learning, they become much more active and enthusiastic.
  7. Teach the Value of Apologizing Set an example by apologizing when you make a mistake. Showing them that even adults take responsibility for their actions teaches children the importance of honesty, accountability, and humility.
